WHAT'S NEW FOR THE 2019 GMC CANYON?

Despite its small size, the GMC Canyon has a lot to offer. This year, the Canyon is safer, more tech-savvy, and more capable than ever. The latest Canyon features a maximum towing capacity of 7,700 lbs and a more powerful engine to help haul heavy loads. The Canyon is available with a diesel engine this year to maximize fuel economy as well. New this year, the cabin gets an upgrade with the addition of a new GMC infotainment system that features a user-friendly interface. This infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice recognition, and smartphone compatibility. You can also add on other handy features like navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a variety of apps. Along with the new standard offerings, the Canyon this year has available features in all trim levels.

FIVE GREAT TRIMS FOR THE 2019 CANYON LINEUP

This year, there are five trim levels of the Canyon to choose from. The base model, called the Canyon, is followed by the SLE, the SLT, the SL, and the Denali. With each trim level comes the option of a regular or extended-length cab. There are also two options available for the crew cab - one is a shorter 5'2" bed, and the longer one has a 6'2" bed. The base model comes with a number of enticing standard amenities, including a backup camera, and a rear bumper with integrated corner steps.

STRONG PERFORMANCE FROM A POWERFUL DRIVETRAIN

There are three engine options in the Canyon. The base engine is a 2.5L, four-cylinder engine that generates up to 200 HP at 6,300 RPM. This engine churns out 191 LB-FT of torque at 4,400 RPM. The engine features a direct fuel injection technology. Standard on the successive trims is a 3.6L, six-cylinder engine. This more powerful engine creates up to 308 HP at 6,800 RPM. It generates up to 275 LB-FT of torque at 4,000 RPM. This engine can be paired with additional optional equipment to enhance its towing capacity. The third engine option is a diesel engine. This engine is a 2.8L, four-cylinder engine that produces up to 181 HP at 3,400 RPM and up to 369 LB-FT of torque.

HOW SAFE IS THE 2019 GMC CANYON?

While the GMC Canyon is an impressive vehicle as far as performance goes, it is also a safe car to drive. A combination of standard and available safety amenities, both passive and active, inspire confidence on your most harrowing drives. Six airbags, including front and side airbags, protect travelers in case of a collision. A backup camera is standard on all trim levels, as is rear park assist. Forward collision warning and lane departure alert are standard on select trim levels. Trailer sway control and hill-start assist come in handy when you're towing heavy loads.
