Buick Encore to be Discontinued for 2023

GM Authority reports that the Buick Encore may be discontinued in the United States market by the end of 2023. The small crossover has been a strong seller for Buick since its introduction in 2013. However, people believe its age is starting to show. The Encore is based on the first-generation GM Theta platform, also used for the Chevrolet Trax and the GMC Terrain. All three vehicles are due for a redesign in the next few years, and the Encore is likely to be the odd one out.

A Closer Look at the Discontinuation of the Buick Encore

Automotive News reported that the Buick Encore will be no more after 2023. A similar electric Buick crossover model will likely replace the Encore. It is expected to arrive in 2025.

The Encore's replacement is part of a more significant effort by Buick to electrify its entire lineup. The brand has already announced that it will introduce a battery-electric version of the Regal. The new crossover will likely share its platform with that model.

It is excellent news for consumers, as it means that Buick can offer a wide variety of electrified vehicles in the coming years. The Regal is a perfect car in its own right, and adding a battery-electric variant will only improve it.

So if you're in the market for a new Buick come 2025, you'll have a choice between a gasoline-powered model and one that runs on electricity. And with battery prices continuing to decline, the latter is likely to be the more affordable option.

GM has announced that all future battery-electric Buick models will be based on the company's new BEV3 platform. It utilizes Ultium lithium-ion batteries and Ultium Drive electric motors. The move is no surprise, given that the Buick Encore remains a relatively popular model. However, GM is looking to phase out its Buick lineup in favor of more fuel-efficient battery-electric options.

Encore was introduced to the North American market in 2013. It will be ten years old by the time it's discontinued in 2023. The Encore has been one of Buick's best-selling models, and its successor is likely to be a significant part of the brand's lineup.

The Encore has been praised for its comfortable ride, fuel efficiency, and features like the built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. It's been a popular choice for young families and retirees, and its successor will likely continue to appeal to those groups.
