How Does GMC Wireless Charging Work?

As smartphones become more powerful, it's become harder to keep them charged when you're on the move. A smartphone charger that plugs into your vehicle's cigarette lighter is practically a necessity, but can also be a big hassle. Fortunately, GMC is offering a simple solution in the form of a wireless charging mat in some of their newer vehicles.

How to Use the Charging Pad

The wireless charging pad is designed to be very easy to use. First of all, you need to remove all objects from the center console lid, especially anything metallic as they can interfere with the charger itself. Next, place your mobile device face up on the charging pad. There will be a place on the pad with the charging symbol molded into the center console's lid. If your phone doesn't start charging immediately, you may have to adjust your phone until it is set correctly on the pad. If you still cannot get it to charge, remove the phone for three seconds and try charging it again. You should see an indicator on your vehicle's IntelliLink screen that will tell you that your phone is charging. Once that happens, simply leave the phone in place until it is fully charged.

The charger itself can be used with almost any device that is compatible with the Qi charging system. The only exceptions are tablets and larger phones that are too large to fit onto the pad. iPhone models prior to the iPhone 8 will also require a wireless charging accessory to be used with the charging pad. If you aren't sure if your iPhone will work in the charging pad, contact Apple Support for more information.
